Profile

Emily is a specialist criminal advocate.

Prosecution & Defence

She prosecutes and defends in all areas of crime and has done since she started at Colleton Chambers. Her practice covers the full range of criminal offences but she is particularly known for prosecuting and defending serious sexual offences, rape and cases of serious violence. She is a Grade 3 prosecutor and is on the approved panel of rape prosecutors.

Motoring Law

Emily also has considerable experience of motoring law cases, including dangerous driving, careless driving, speeding, drink driving and more technical offences.

Crime & Regulatory

A member of the Unified List of Prosecuting Advocates for the Western Circuit, Emily both prosecutes and defends in cases brought by the Department for Work and Pensions, Local Authorities and Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. She undertakes other work on behalf of many Government agencies, including, DEFRA and DBIS.

POCA

Emily’s case load frequently involves all aspects of financial crimes and proceeds of crime applications in both the Crown Court and the Magistrates’ Court.

Judicial Reviews & Appeals

She has appeared in the Divisional Court for judicial reviews and the Court of Appeal for appeals against sentence and conviction.

Inquests

She has also appeared before inquests as counsel for various interested parties.

George William Edmond v DPP [2006] EWHC Admin 463
Appeal by way of case stated which considered the lawfulness of a second request of a breath specimen.

Defendant accused of two counts of rape of a nine year old, acquitted at trial.

R v PC
Defendant accused of sexual assault of his daughter, acquitted at trial.

R v DK
Autistic youth charged with four counts of sexual activity with nine year olds, acquitted at trial.

R v RM
Defendant charged with section 18, wounding with intent, acquitted at trial.

R v JQ
Defendant charged with attempted section 18, wounding with intent and violent disorder, acquitted at trial.

Prosecution

R v KN
Defendant charged with oral rape of his wife, convicted at trial.

R v JL
and others Five defendants all charged with affray, convicted at trial.

R v DB
Defendant charged with dangerous driving following a collision that caused life changing injuries, convicted at trial.

Emily has been regularly instructed as a Junior in murder cases, for both the Defence and the Prosecution and child abuse cases. She has considerable experience in cases involving child cruelty, domestic violence and sexual offences.
