Whilst Herc was called to the Bar in 2005 he commenced his pupillage at Colleton Chambers in 2015 having worked at commercial law firms in the intervening period. Having completed his pupillage Herc has a broader practice across Crime, Family and Civil law.
Herc undertakes both criminal prosecution and defence work. He is a Grade 1 prosecutor.
In the Magistrates’, Youth and Crown Courts Herc has dealt with:
- Offences of violence, dishonesty, drugs and public order;
- Driving offences;
- Appeals against conviction and sentence;
- Applications brought by National Probation Service;
- Sexual Risk Orders and Sexual Harm Prevention Orders;
- Football Banning Orders;
- Firearms licensing appeals;
- Cash forfeiture orders;
- Dangerous Dog applications.
Herc has appeared before a jury in a Crown Court trial, successfully representing a Defendant alleged to have threatened with a bladed article. Herc’s experience includes representing children and he has completed vulnerable witness training.

Herc has dealt with applications for:
- Child Arrangements Orders
- Specific Issues and Prohibited Steps Orders
- Permission to remove from the jurisdiction
- Part 25 orders
- Parental Responsibility
- Injunctions under the Family Law Act 1989 and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997
Herc regularly attends final hearings and fact-finding hearings involving allegations of domestic / child abuse.
Herc has acted for parents, local authorities and guardians at all stages of care proceedings. Herc has represented a parent with learning difficulties in an eight day fact-finding hearing resulting in exoneration from allegations of inflicting facial injuries.
Herc has provided advice on appeal and/or discharge of Care Orders.
Herc undertakes Fast-track trials, Small Claims trials, mediation representation (also see ADR below) and advisory work.
He worked in the construction team of an eminent local firm of solicitors. This involved day-to-day conduct of a high value multi-party professional negligence dispute involving a new-build hospital in London’s Technology and Construction Court.

Herc has attended over 3,000 County Court hearings before District Judges in the Southwest, Home Counties and London, including the RCJ, for numerous firms of Solicitors.

Herc is an accredited civil and commercial mediator.
